Crock Pot Cooking, Part 1 —  Party Food!

Christmas Party

December tends to be full of parties and potlucks where the obligatory dish must be provided. Then there’s the issue of having food that tastes better warm, but goes cold while its on the buffet. The answer: Crock Pot!

I have to admit I’ve fallen in love with mine since going back to work. Add in the new slow cooker bags and clean-up is as easy as a wipe down.

So in hopes of making your holiday parties easy AND enjoyable, I’m sharing a few recipes with you today.

Cheese Dip

1 block Queso Blanco Velveeta cheese

1 pound hamburger meat, browned and drained

1 can green chilies, drain most of the juice out

Chop the cheese into smaller squares and melt in the microwave. Add all ingredients to the crockpot and mix well. Serve with tortilla chips.

Barbequed Smokies

2 packages Little Smokies, favorite brand

1 bottle barbeque sauce, favorite brand

These are super easy and will keep all day! Just dump both ingredients into the crockpot and simmer until the smokies plump up.

Sweet and Spicy Meatballs

2 bags frozen meatballs

20 ounces ketchup

¾ large jar of grape jelly

3 heavy dashes of Red Hot sauce

Thaw meatballs in the microwave. Whisk the rest of the ingredients together in a bowl (jelly will still be a little lumpy). Put meatballs in the crockpot, set to high if you’re in a hurry or low if you have plenty of time. Pour the sauce over the top. Let simmer until heated thoroughly. (or if you prefer traditional meatballs, just cover with your favorite spaghetti sauce)

And don’t forget my quick Apple Cider recipe at http://daniwade.wordpress.com/2012/11/09/autumns-harvest-blog-hop/

One of my favorite Christmas Romance Books is The Untamable Rogue by Annette Blair! The story is about Ashford Blackburne Fifth Earl and he has to get married and get his willing bride pregnant before Christmas or his grandfather won’t let him inherit his money. Ash truly needs to inherit the money because his late father squandered it all away and he is taking care of his mother. After getting stood up at the alter, again, Ash and his friends go to the local pub where the owner plays a drunken Ash in a card game…his consolation prize is the pubs daughter Larkin, who he wants to get ride of. Ash has to learn to forgive…Larkin has to learn how to trust…can two completely different people find love together. This is a cute, extremely funny, romantic story with a surprise Christmas ending!

    Good morning Dani
I like my crock pot too. I like to take brownies, rice crispie treats to Christmas functions and place on a very festive plate. Also you can put a decorative Dollie to take it a step further. Place some in festive Christmas bags with inexpensive ribbon and you are good to go.
    Thank you for the contest.

One of my go to holiday appetizers is caramelized cocktail sausages. They are super easy. You just need 1 package of cocktail sausage, 1 package of bacon, and some brown sugar. All you do is wrap a portion of a strip of bacon around each sausage (I cut mine in half or fourths). I then secure mine with a toothpick to hold the bacon in place and to make for easy serving later. I line the sausages in a 9×12 pan. After all the sausages are wrapped, I sprinkle them with as much brown sugar as desired (approx. 1/4-1/2 cup). Bake at approx. 375 until the brown sugar has carmalized.

I would love to cook or bake but after accidentally setting the kitchen on fire (twice lol) I am not longer allowed to do that. Most of the time I don’t mind at all although every once in awhile I will see a recipe for something I just have to have and know I won’t get it since my boyfriend isn’t a baker at all. He is wonderful with cooking supper however.

Thanks so much for sharing your recipes and the giveaway.

Happy Holidays to you and your family,
